Description:
This brightly fluorescent tugtupite specimen was collected in 2005 by Mark Cole from the Western Taseq Slope of the Ilmaussaq complex, Kujalleq, Greenland. In addition to the pink tugtupite, this rock also features white albite, yellow grains of polylithionite, grey analcime, chkalovite and dark grains of non-fluorescent arfvedsonite.
Under shortwave UV (254 nm), the tugtupite fluoresces bright cherry red, albite shows a dim magenta response, polylithionite fluoresces yellow and analcime shows a pale blue response. Following exposure to shortwave UV (254 nm), the tugtupite shows pale pink to white phosphorescence/afterglow. Under longwave UV (365 nm), the tugtupite fluoresces bright orange and the analcime shows a pale blue/white response. Following exposure to longwave UV (365 nm), the tugtupite shows pale pink to white phosphorescence/afterglow.
