Fluorescent Kyanite from Brazil

Contributed by: Mark Cole
Date: Apr 9th, 2026
Locality: Minas Gerais, Brazil (See on Mindat)
Size: 3 x 2 x 5 inches
Weight: 1.6 lb

Description:
Some kyanite has always been known to be weakly fluorescent - a pale red under longwave UV. With the advent of powerful LW LEDs this mineral can be found with a relatively bright reaction and is quite attractive. But don\'t expect to see this under archaic blacklights - you need a powerful LW LED.
