Fluorescent Mineral Database

A new secret project! Trying to create a nice Fluorescent Mineral Database (FMDB), which would be searchable by mineral, locality, and luminescence properties. Also making it easy for people to contribute with their own specimens!

Rich Orange Fluorescent Calcite from Mexico

Contributed by: Mark Cole
Date: Apr 5th, 2026
Locality: Santa Eulalia Mining District, Aquiles Serdán Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico (See on Mindat)
Size: 5 x 3.5 x 5 inches
Weight: 2.77 lb

Description:
Franklin calcite certainly wins the brightness contest but sometimes I find the color glaring. This piece is quite bright on its own but exhibits a rich orange color I find striking.

Shortwave fluorescent pictures were taken at ISO-100, f/11 for 2 seconds.
