Locality: Dara-i-Pioz Massif, Districts of Republican Subordination, Tajikistan (See on Mindat)
Size: 4 x 3 x 5 cm
Weight: 98.5 g
Description:
A rare piece of solid zektzerite (after sogdianite, according to the label) with a little microcline and some mica group mineral. Under shortwave UV light the zektzerite fluoresces bright white, while the albite a dull red. A hypothesis is that while the zektzerite is the bright white fluorescent mineral, the unaltered sogdianite is the dimmer, grey one. The mica also may have a little dark yellow / brown fluorescence. The label is also quite interesting: from the Fersman Mineralogical Museum, Moscow.
Summary of luminescence responses:
Zektzerite (Mindat) (RRUFF)
- Fluorescence under Shortwave (255nm LED) UV light: White
