Fluorescent Mineral Database

A new secret project! Trying to create a nice Fluorescent Mineral Database (FMDB), which would be searchable by mineral, locality, and luminescence properties. Also making it easy for people to contribute with their own specimens!

"Pea Green" Sodalite from Greenland, Found Off Sodalite Beach

Contributed by: Mark Cole
Date: Mar 20th, 2026
Locality: Ilímaussaq complex, Kujalleq, Greenland (See on Mindat)
Size: 2.5 x 1 x 4 inches
Weight: 8.1 oz

Description:
This is one of the brightest varieties of sodalite from the Ilimaussaq Complex in Greenland. It is colored pea-green in white light and fluoresces a very bright yellow/orange under both longwave and shortwave. These pieces are not normally tenebrescent, but this piece is - resulting in a slightly darker, rusty orange color under SW (once the tenebrescence sets in). The green fluorescence is uranyl activated.
