Scheelite from China - Multi-Color Response under Shortwave, Midwave, and Longwave UV
Contributed by: Mark Cole
Date: Mar 14th, 2026
Locality: Hunan, China (See on Mindat)
Size: 2 x 0.75 x 2 inches
Weight: 1.4 oz
Description:
There was a recent post in the Fluorescent Mineral Group on Facebook discussing the fluorescence of scheelite under LW UV (UVA). I checked the pieces I have here and found that around half of them are fluorescent a dim orange - not terribly bright (and really requires a powerful LED light such as the Convoy to see a noticeable response). This piece was one of the better ones. (Sadly, as is the case with many rocks from China, no exact locality was given - but my guess is a mine in Hunan.)
