Fluorescent Mineral Database

A new secret project! Trying to create a nice Fluorescent Mineral Database (FMDB), which would be searchable by mineral, locality, and luminescence properties. Also making it easy for people to contribute with their own specimens!

Calcite, AL Highway 75 road cut, Blount Co., AL

Contributed by: FMS Admin
Date: Mar 1st, 2026
Locality: Blount County, Alabama, USA (See on Mindat)
Size: 8 x 6 x 13 cm
Weight: 755 g

Description:
This is a roughly rectangular block of limestone with a calcite vein running diagonally through it, a pattern that I find especially appealing. The colors and color variations are typical of specimens from widely distributed locations around the state. Both LW and SW UV fluorescences are shown, along with a room-light photo.
