Calcite, Fluorite, Willemite, Smithsonite, Aragonite from Arizona
Contributed by: FMS Admin
Date: Feb 28th, 2026
Locality: Great Southern Mine, Monarch Wash area, Black Rock Mining District, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA (See on Mindat)
Size: 10.2 x 7 x 12.7 cm
Description:
This specimen was mined during a trip with Bill Gardner in 2005 and comes from the Hogan Claim site.
Nothing to say about the calcite beauty (it seems burning embers).
Veins of fluorite and willemite are sometimes coupled to form spectacular bicolor "belts".
There is also a small vein of Smithsonite (fluorescent pink, purple). Other pink zones are instead for the overlap of calcite (red) and fluorite (blue).
Some areas are phosphorescent (willemite and possibly aragonite?)
