Calcite, Scheelite and Hsianghualite? - Xianghualing, China

Contributed by: FMS Admin
Date: May 27th, 2026
Locality: Xianghualing Mine, Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field, Linwu Co., Chenzhou, Hunan, China (See on Mindat)

Description:
An interesting rock from the Xianghualing Mine, Chenzhou, Hunan, China. The calcite is a deeper red than most I have seen from China. The rock also has a little scheelite that glows a bright whitish blue. The interesting unknown mineral that fluoresces grey. A well-educated guess (not by me) is that it may be a rare mineral, Hsianghualite, found only at Xianghualing and its sister mine, Xianghuapu. But until testing is done on it or similar material, we'll not know for certain.
