Ruby in Marble - Myanmar

Contributed by: FMS Admin
Date: May 10th, 2026
Locality: Kyauk-Pyat-That, Mogok Township, Pyin-Oo-Lwin District, Mandalay Region, Myanmar (See on Mindat)
Size: 4.7 x 2 x 6.3 cm

Description:
Single ruby crystal, in calcitic marble, along with non-fluorescent graphite and a greenish mineral, which I assume is possibly olivine.

Under longwave UV, the ruby fluoresces very bright red; it fluoresces weakly under shorter UV wavelengths. The calcitic marble matrix fluoresces dim blueish violet under midwave UV.

The ruby crystal is 6 mm X 3.5 mm
