Yellow Fluorescing Calcite - Franklin Mine, New Jersey
Contributed by: FMS Admin
Date: May 9th, 2026
Locality: Franklin Mine, Franklin, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA (See on Mindat)
Size: 2 inches
Description:
Here is a very small sample of yellow fluorescing calcite from the Franklin Mine, in Franklin, New Jersey. Two traits separate this from most of the other calcite at Franklin. First, it is yellow. Second, it only fluoresces under longwave light. We found this piece during the SuperDiggg on the Mill Site pile and most of the rock was non-fluorescent calcite, with only a small portion fluorescing. After a lucky whack with a hammer and chisel, we separated the best part.
