Contributed by: FMS Admin
Date: May 7th, 2026
Locality: Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama, USA (See on Mindat)
Size: 3.5 inches

Description:
Alabama is not known for its fluorescent rocks. However, it is home to America's space and rocket program and Huntsville boasts over 240 caves within the city limits, with a staggering 2000 additional caves in the surrounding area. Travertine, a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, is an often host rock for caves. This specimen, a little too small for any caves, is about 3.5 inches across and fluoresces best under LW, with MW and SW being noticeably dimmer. Shown under longwave UV and natural.
