Fluorescent Mineral Database

A new secret project! Trying to create a nice Fluorescent Mineral Database (FMDB), which would be searchable by mineral, locality, and luminescence properties. Also making it easy for people to contribute with their own specimens!

Sodalite var. Hackmanite - Davis Quarry, Bancroft, Canada

Contributed by: Chris Clemens
Date: Apr 28th, 2026
Locality: Davis Quarry, Dungannon Township, Town of Bancroft, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada (See on Mindat)
Size: 3.4 x 2.5 x 8.3 cm
Weight: 97 g

Description:
This blocky specimen of hackmanite is from the Davis Quarry, Bancroft, Ontario, Canada. Under longwave UV it shows a bright, saturated, orange, fluorescent response. It is also moderately fluorescent under shortwave UV, responding with a dimmer magenta/blue glow. There is also an unidentified cream-colored mineral present as patches on one surface of this specimen, possibly aragonite, that fluoresces blue/white under both wavelengths.
