FMS members pay annual dues to support the organization, but we are experimentally offering guest registration for participation in the public forums. Many of the fields ask for detailed contact info, intended to be shared only with other FMS members or FMS administrators. Guests are not required to provide such detailed information, but we do expect whatever you reveal to be true and accurate.

We screen registrations before approval, and if we see deceptive or frivolous registration info, we assume that another spammer is attempting to infiltrate the forums. You will need a working email address to receive the password and activate your account.

Please choose a login name that will uniquely identify you among hundreds of members, one that will be easy to remember and type. (Using firstname.lastname will sort alphabetically, helping other members find you more easily.) Logins are case sensitive - a mix of Upper/lower case looks nice, but must be entered that way at each login, so lowercase only is recommended. Don't use a space in your username, even if the canned registration form says they are allowed. For obscure reasons, using a space in your username currently excludes you from accessing some of the password-secured member content on this server.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation and password, but you will be unable to login until it is approved by an administrator (who is alerted by email, and may be playing hookie.) Once you receive another email notice that your account has been approved, your account and password will be activated for login.

If you wish to receive some FMS mailings (UV Waves) electronically as a .pdf format attachment by email you can choose this option at no charge. (If you also opt-out of the printed snail-mailings, you may deduct $2 from your annual dues.) The content of this field is kept private and will not be shown publicly.
Check this box to NOT receive the UVWaves newsletter by postal mail. Newsletters are available online in full color for viewing and printing. This will save the FMS some expense, our mailing volunteers some time, and is preferred by some members with poor postal service. Optional -- (Previously) Regional areas where FMS members have a volunteer Vice President to represent them on the FMS board of directors. This is usually assigned by FMS officers to new members, but guests may choose a region now if you are in that geographical area. Note that in 2010, the FMS has changed from Regions to Chapters. Some regional member groups are not yet established as chapters (please contact the FMS if you wish to orgainze a chapter). Please consider these all as Provisional chapters until the website gets sorted out.

This allows members to list their favorite minerals, one item per line. It is also used to list the minerals carried by a dealer, and to describe the number and types of minerals in a museum exhibit. For our public listings, this is the name of the company, museum, exhibit, or dealer.
