Sat. July 16

Breakfast: You are on your own.

9:30 AM Arrive, sign in, get name badges, and get your ticket for door prizes.  Set up your selling or trading material in the dark garage.   

?          Greetings and opening remarks

?          Introductions-Everyone introduces themselves.

?          Short business meeting.  Please note that the FMS Board appreciates volunteers.  Nominations and election of a President and Vice President of the NW FMS Chapter.  Terms of office are for two years.

?          Show N’ Tell:  Members bring 2 to 3 specimens for Show N’ Tell in the dark garage.  Suggest blue fluorescent color but you can bring any fluorescent mineral you want.

Noon   Lunch: Everyone contributes $8.00 for pizza, chips, snacks, soft drinks, and dessert.

?          Auction of specimens that members have brought.  It is suggested that 25% of each winning bid be donated to the FMS.

?          Members selling and trading specimens.

?          Looking at Don’s collection for those that are interested.

?          Door prize drawings, and more trading and selling.

5:30     Dinner together (Dutch treat) at a restaurant in Southcenter Shopping Center (Tukwila, WA about 7 miles away).

            Breakfast: You are on your own.

10:00 AM Greeting of any new attendees.

?          Demonstration by J. Wolf Kuehn of the Canadian Institute of Gemmology of his Gemlab equipment.  Title of talks “Advanced Spectroscopy in Mineral Identification” and “Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy in Mineral Identification (with demonstrations)”.

?          Report on the X-ray fluorescence of minerals that was conducted at the University of Washington, on June 2, 2016.

Noon   Lunch:  Pizza (delivered).  Plus soft drinks.

?          Measuring the spectral distribution of fluorescent minerals using the Ocean Options USB2000 spectrophotometer.

?          Measuring the brightness of fluorescent minerals using the Photo Research PR-650 spectrophotometer.

?          Examining phosphorescent minerals using the prototype Phorsphorescope.

?          Examining the fluorescence of UV minerals in the near IR using a video camera.

?          Discuss the Fluorescent Color Standard concept.


Please let me know as soon as possible if you are planning to come so I can make sure we have enough food.
