FMS - The Fluorescent Mineral Society

Numerous books exist on mineral collecting, but only a relative few are authoritative on the subject of fluorescence.   Included here are selected references that are highly regarded by members of the FMS.

References are divided into the following categories:

• Descriptive - oriented toward mineral collecting
• General - crystal chemistry and physics of luminescence
• Coloration of Minerals
• Cathodoluminescence
• Fluorescence in Specific Minerals

Also helpful are the magazines of the hobby.   Rocks & Minerals magazine and the Mineralogical Record are oriented mainly toward those with more interest in mineralogy, while Rock & Gem magazine leans more towards gem collecting, lapidary crafts and jewelry-making.   All will give you pointers to collecting sites, lists of upcoming shows (except the Mineralogical Record), and articles of general interest to this hobby.   Each will have ads from dealers, including sources for fluorescent minerals and other specialties.
